Good over door kitchen storage uses the spare face of a pantry or cupboard door without making the door awkward to open. The fit matters more than the number of tiers: a rack that catches the frame, hits the wall or loads a light door too heavily is not useful extra capacity.

Our recommendations are based on editorial research rather than hands-on testing. We inspected the exact Amazon UK variants below as available new for delivery to a UK postcode on 8 October 2026. Availability can change, so confirm the selected colour, size and seller before ordering.

How to measure for over door kitchen storage

Measure five things before buying:

  1. Door thickness: the hook must sit fully over the top without forcing it.
  2. Gap above the door: a thick hook can scrape the frame or prevent closing.
  3. Usable width: allow for the handle, hinges and any recessed panels.
  4. Rack depth: check both the closed position and the arc as the door opens.
  5. Clear space behind the door: the rack must not strike a wall, radiator or cabinet.

Open the door to its normal limit and mark the proposed rack outline with masking tape. On a pantry door, check that the lowest basket will not foul a skirting board or door stop. On a cupboard door, check that the basket clears shelves, pipes and stored items when closed.

If the door is not suitable, use the fixed shelves more effectively instead. Our guides to kitchen cupboard organisers and storage for galley kitchens cover alternatives that do not hang from a door.

The SONGMICS KCS046BH01 is the most considered full-height design here. Its six transparent-black baskets have raised sides and solid backs, reducing the chance that small packets slip through the gap towards the door. The baskets are removable and can be repositioned to leave more height for bottles or packets.

Amazon lists the assembled size as 22cm deep, 44.3cm wide and 134.5cm high. That width provides useful capacity, but it needs a broad, unobstructed door. The listing states a total capacity of 30kg, divided as 5kg per tier; treat that as the rack’s limit, not proof that the door and hinges should carry that much.

2. VyGrow 6-Tier Narrow Over Door Storage — best for a narrow door

The white VyGrow OTDO-6TWS is only 31.3cm wide, so it suits a door where a broad organiser would clash with a handle or panel. It has six adjustable mesh baskets on a powder-coated metal frame, plus adhesive stabilisers and fittings for an alternative wall-mounted installation.

Amazon lists the frame at 12cm deep, 31.3cm wide and 122.5cm high. The listing also calls for a door at least 16 inches wide, more than 5.5 inches of space behind it, a top gap over 0.08 inches and a maximum door thickness of 1.9 inches. Those mixed units are easy to misread, so check each clearance rather than relying on the word “narrow”.

This four-tier Taylor & Brown rack trades vertical basket count for broad 50cm shelves. It can work on a wide pantry or utility-room door where packets, cleaning refills or folded cloths need a clear open shelf rather than narrow individual compartments.

The listing gives dimensions of 14cm deep, 50cm wide and 109cm high, with hooks for doors up to 38mm thick. Its click-fit frame needs self-assembly. Because the shelves are open wire and the product page does not give a useful load figure, keep the contents light and balanced rather than treating it like fixed shelving.

4. GEEZY Hanging Storage Basket — best lightweight cupboard basket

The GEEZY G545 is a single moulded basket rather than a full-door rack. At 9.5cm deep, 24cm wide and 35.7cm high, it adds one accessible pocket for cloths, dishwasher tablets in their original container or light packets without covering the whole door.

Its hook is listed for cabinet doors up to 2cm thick and needs no drilling. The tall back panel helps protect the door and contain small items, but the basket still projects inside or outside the cupboard. Measure the shelf clearance with the door shut, especially if you plan to hang it internally.

5. Homieco ct06 Metal Storage Basket — best compact metal basket

The Homieco ct06 is the smallest option in the guide: a black wire basket listed at 10cm deep, 25cm wide and 10cm high. It is better suited to a row of spice jars, foil rolls or small cleaning items than tall bottles. Padded brackets are intended to reduce scratching and fit cabinet doors up to 2.2cm thick.

The low basket keeps its contents visible, but it also provides less restraint when the door moves. Use it for compact, stable items and check that jar tops or roll ends do not catch the cabinet shelf as the door closes.

Which over-door kitchen rack should you choose?

Choose the SONGMICS if you have a clear, full-height pantry door and want adjustable baskets with enclosed backs. Choose the narrower VyGrow when width is the limiting measurement. The Taylor & Brown makes sense on a broad door when four wide shelves are more useful than six smaller baskets.

For an ordinary base or wall cupboard, start with one small basket. The plastic GEEZY gives deeper containment for light supplies, while the metal Homieco is neater for short jars and rolls. If pipework already makes a cabinet awkward, a dedicated under-sink organiser may use the space more safely.

Final advice

Do not fill an over-door rack simply because a basket is empty. Add items gradually, open and close the door, and watch for flexing at the hooks, hinges or door panel. Leave breakable glass and heavy tins on a fixed shelf. The best result is a door that still moves normally while taking a small, well-defined category off the worktop or shelf.
