Laundry Baskets
In a small home the laundry basket is furniture, whether you meant it to be or not. Slim, lidded and divided options stop washing from colonising the bedroom floor — as long as the basket actually fits the landing.
Key buying considerations
Measure the gap beside the bath, the wardrobe, or the washing machine before you fall for a woven hamper.
Width of the landing
UK hallways punish wide hampers. A slim rectangle that tucks beside a machine is more useful than a pretty barrel that blocks the door.
Lids, vents and smell
A lid hides the pile. It also traps moisture if the basket sits in a bathroom with no fan. Ventilation holes are not a design flourish.
Carrying it to the machine
If the washing machine is not next to the basket, handles and weight matter. A divided sorter is useless if you cannot get it down the stairs.
